Software for remote speedometer download and analysis

A web-based solution for the management of tachograph data offers numerous advantages for transport companies. A central feature is the automatic and timely readout of tachograph data, which can be planned individually and ensures compliance with legal requirements. Thanks to the Precise monitoring of driving, working and rest times companies can make optimum use of the remaining driving times. In addition, digital tacho software ensures maximum transparency in the event of infringements by clearly displaying the number and categories of infringements per month. Efficiency is increased thanks to less manual readout time, fewer calls to drivers and instruction information for greater legal certainty. The reporting tool offers professional evaluations with alarm reports, graphics, dashboards and tables. The remote download enables the fully automatic and manual reading of .ddd files that are transmitted from the vehicle via telematics. With a LIVE view, dispatchers can check the current driving time, the next break and speeding violations in real time.

Frequently asked questions about the remote download of digit. Tachographs

The daily remaining driving time on the digital tachometer is very important for deployment planning, as it directly influences how long a driver can still be deployed without violating driving and rest times. Software for downloading speedometer data can be combined with GPS driving data to show dispatchers the current remaining driving time of their drivers and vehicles online.

Important reasons for the significance of the remaining driving time:

  1. Optimal route planning
    • Dispatchers can see how long a driver is still legally allowed to drive.
    • Prevents drivers from having to stop prematurely during a tour.
  2. Avoidance of violations and fines
    • Exceeding the permitted driving time leads to high penalties.
    • Checking the remaining driving time helps to avoid infringements.
  3. Efficient vehicle use
    • Drivers with more remaining driving time can be used for longer distances.
    • Vehicles do not stand idle because the available driving time was incorrectly estimated.
  4. Reduction of stress and time pressure
    • Drivers know exactly how much time they have left.
    • Helps to create realistic timetables and avoid fatigue.
  5. More flexible planning for unexpected events
    • In the event of traffic jams or delays, a driver with more remaining driving time can be scheduled as a replacement.
    • Necessary changes can be recognized and implemented at an early stage.
The tacho company card must be inserted in the USB card reader for authentication and enables remote access to the data of the digital tachograph. During remote reading, the card remains inserted in the USB card reader (either on our server or at the company).

Functionality:

  1. Connection with the built-in telematics device
    – The digital tachograph in the vehicle is connected to the telematics device with a special tacho cable set, which transmits the data to the tacho software via the mobile phone network.
  2. Authentication with the company card
    – The company card must be inserted in a card reader for authentication. It is possible to use a tacho sequential card (virtually a copy).
    – The system communicates with the tachograph via a secure connection in order to read out the data in compliance with the law.
  3. Automatic data transmission
    – The stored tachograph data is retrieved in accordance with the legal deadlines (e.g. driver card data every 28 days, mass memory every 90 days).

Important notes:

  • NO remote reading without a valid company card!
  • The card must remain in the card reader to ensure uninterrupted data transfer. If the computer is switched off in the evening or goes into sleep mode, remote reading is NOT possible. It is therefore better to store a follow-up card with us as the provider.

Legal basis: Regulation (EU) No. 2021/1228 Annex IC

Companies have to convert to new digital tachographs because there are legal requirements that prescribe the gradual introduction of smart tachographs (version 2). These new devices bring technical improvements and ensure more efficient monitoring of driving and rest times.
Main reasons for the conversion:

  1. Legal obligation (EU Regulation 165/2014 & Mobility Package 1)
    • Since August 21, 2023: New trucks and buses must be equipped with Smart Speedometer 2
    • By the end of 2024: Vehicles with 1st generation speedometers must be converted to the new version.
    • By August 2025: Older vehicles with Smart-Tacho 1 must also be converted to version 2.
  2. Better control by authorities
    • GPS tracking for cross-border operations makes it easier to monitor cabotage regulations.
    • Authorities can read out certain data remotely in order to detect infringements more quickly.
  3. Increased tamper resistance
    • New security mechanisms prevent the falsification or manipulation of tachograph data.
    • Improved authentication and encrypted data transmission.
  4. Simplification for drivers & dispatching
    • Automatic recording of border crossings reduces the administrative burden.
    • Better planning thanks to more precise display of remaining driving times.
  5. Avoidance of penalties & competitive disadvantages
    • Companies that do not retrofit in time face fines and driving bans.
    • Competitive disadvantage compared to companies that use modern telematics and tacho data analysis.

Which vehicles are affected?

  • All commercial vehicles over 3.5 tons that travel across borders.
  • Also light commercial vehicles (2.5 – 3.5 tons) in international traffic from July 2026.
Yes, because it is not enough to simply download or save the data. The read-out DDD speedometer data must be checked regularly.
1. legal obligation

  • Companies are obliged to monitor compliance with driving times and rest periods (EU Regulation 561/2006).
  • Violations must be detected and, if necessary, documented and corrected. This is best achieved with a software solution for archiving and checking tachograph data.

2. avoidance of fines

  • Irregularities or violations can lead to severe penalties.
  • Early monitoring enables drivers to be corrected and retrained in good time. This is best achieved with a software solution for archiving and checking speedometer data, which can also be used to create driver instructions and inform drivers of their misconduct in a verifiable manner.

3. tamper detection

  • Irregular data or gaps may indicate incorrect or deliberate manipulation.
  • Regular checks help to detect such problems at an early stage. The best way to do this is with a software solution for archiving and checking tachograph data, as you can detect readout gaps and data gaps when downloading.
