The digital driver’s license check offers employers a simple and user-friendly solution to save time and reduce administrative work. Automated check intervals, notifications and reminders ensure that all driving licenses are always valid, which creates legal certainty for you as the managing director or fleet manager, as well as for the company. Driver master data

All active drivers and drivers are created or imported in the software. The personnel master data can also be synchronized via secure interfaces (MS365 SCIM, SAML2 SSO or LDAP). Fleet managers can also store the driver’s license classes.

The driver’s license checks are displayed for all drivers. There are driving license checks that are carried out online (via smartphone) or offline (on site). Completed driver’s license checks are shown in green.

Automate checks

Manual release

Drivers check their own driving licenses on their smartphones. If the automatic check by the AI fails, the fleet manager manually marks the driver’s license as completed. Old or illegible driving licenses can also be approved manually.

Frequently asked questions about the digital driver’s license check

A company with a fleet of vehicles has legal obligations as a license holder, for example to regularly check the required driving license. The regulations in Germany are very strict, but you should not rely on them in Austria either, as the liability risks for the managing director or fleet manager are very high.

§103 KFG 1967 (Austrian Motor Vehicle Act) provides: The owner of the registration may only allow persons to drive his motor vehicle who have the required driving license.

A driver’s license check should be carried out regardless of the type and size of the vehicle fleet in order to minimize the liability risk of the managing director – or the head of office/mayor or the fleet manager.

There are also situations in which even comprehensive insurance will not pay out under any circumstances: For example, if you as a managing director or fleet manager let someone drive your vehicle without a valid driver’s license! Without regular driving license checks, this is exactly what could happen… In this context, regular checks of driving licenses are certainly better than blind trust, which can be expensive.
If entrepreneurs or fleet managers allow someone without a valid driver’s license to drive a vehicle and an accident occurs, the motor vehicle liability insurance usually covers the compensation of the accident victims, but there may be cost reclaims in the recourse! The managing director or the fleet manager (site manager) is liable.
The legal situation regarding driving license checks in companies differs in Germany and Austria. Nevertheless, companies should NOT refrain from regularly checking drivers’ licenses, as high costs, expensive liability risks and even personal liability and penalties can be incurred by the fleet manager or managing director if the obligation to check driving licenses is ignored.
The managing director is personally punished if, as a representative of the company, he fails to do everything reasonable and possible to prevent the direct perpetrator from committing an administrative offense (Section 9 (1) VStG).
